Ico Music Device
The prompt our group, Alex Trimmingham, Matthew Storey and I (Sohm Dubey), were given was to design the future of audio listening experience. The purpose of this project was to bridge the gap between analog and digital music experiences, combining the engagement and ritualistic qualities of analog mediums with the convenience and accessibility of digital formats. The research phase involved analyzing the evolution of music devices—from vinyl to streaming platforms—to understand their unique benefits and shortcomings. Testing focused on validating the feasibility of combining analog’s tangible appeal with digital’s portability and convenience. The final design addresses these insights, offering a product that unifies the emotional depth of analog experiences with the seamless functionality of digital technologies, aiming to redefine personal and shared music interactions. My primary role was concept development, taking each of our ideas, and synthesizing features from each to develop a unified concept. We worked to develop this concept with user testing to see which features were necessary and where elements should be placed.
